BigSur Energy co-founder Bernardo Cabral joined Tomás Córdoba, CEO of Compañía Mega, and Oscar Sardi, CEO of TGS, for a conversation moderated by Fernando Heredia.
Turning gas into digital infrastructure
Bernardo presented BigSur Energy’s approach to converting gas directly into on-site electricity for modular data centers.
By deploying generation and compute infrastructure at the wellhead, the model creates local demand for gas that might otherwise face transportation constraints or remain underutilized. This provides producers with a flexible and modular alternative while reducing dependence on conventional transmission infrastructure.
Applying an operating model developed in the United States
BigSur Energy is building on its operational experience in the United States, where the company develops off-grid energy and compute infrastructure directly at the source.
The company plans to apply this model in Argentina through an initial 20 MW project in Neuquén, establishing a foundation for larger-scale infrastructure as the market develops.
Reaching that scale will require collaboration across the energy value chain. Midstream infrastructure, upstream production and flexible on-site demand all have a role to play in converting Argentina’s energy resources into productive capacity.
Featured by Forbes Argentina
BigSur Energy’s participation and infrastructure model were subsequently featured by Forbes Argentina in both its digital publication and print edition.
The coverage highlighted how on-site data centers can provide a flexible source of demand for associated gas while supporting the development of the digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and other compute-intensive industries.
